From recycling lighting waste as part of the luminaire production process, no plastic in the packaging (and being fully recyclable), plus paper install guides also replaced with easy to scan QR codes to prevent waste. We’ve also designed packing to be re-used and even collaborated with clients to re-use waste on sites.
But we’ve always had our own approach. In 2020 we launched our Nude version. No toxic parts, no paint or unnatural bits covering it all up – all it had was a strong design aesthetic.
Still, we’re not even close to perfect, and everyday we’re striving to do things even better.

andro housing is made from a combination of recycled lighting waste, new waste and new raw material for both die-cast and extrusion alloy-based designs.
Breaking down some of the energy saving and technical qualities – andro luminaires are engineered to get the maximum light for power consumed. This is so we can reduce the number of fittings required in a space and of course, reduce overall energy consumption.
The volume of recycled waste used in the production of andro fluctuates depending on what we can source but we always strive to source and recycle as much amount of lighting waste as we can.
The use of recycled aluminium in the production of andro helps in 95% energy saving as opposed to if the lights were made of new raw material from scratch.
From day one even when we designed the packaging it was different. We wanted to incentivise people to recycle and also give them ideas for doing so. And of course, we didn’t use plastic inserts from the get-go.
andro boxes have a multipurpose design so they can be reused as storage units using our Australian native seed inserts, you can even use them as pot plants. With the team at Nightingale Housing, we took it one step further. We wanted to reduce site waste at Nightingale Anstey, so we came up with something special for the residents and take re-using site waste to a new level. All discarded packaging was re-purposed to become Nightingale Anstey Wominjeka welcome packs for the residents.
